Job Duties

2. Supervising Campers throughout the day
   • Lead groups of 6 to 8 kids through a specified camp curriculum under the supervision of the Camp Director
   • Create a fun and active environment for every camper so that they are excited to come back the next day!
   • Provide incident response to accidents and injuries as required
   • Encourage campers to try their best
   • Give Lots of High Fives
   • Make the kids your priority and focus.
   • Make the entirety of each and every camper's days at CampGrippen awesome!
   • Prepare for camp with setting up
   • Cleaning up and breaking down camp equipment
3. Guest Experience Team roles:
   • Guest activities and provide incident/emergency response if ever needed.
   • Providing facility orientations and certifications to new guests (including belay and lead climbing tests)
   • Engaging with customers throughout shift to create a positive community
   • Front desk (guest check-in, membership and day pass sales, retail sales, answering questions by phone, email, and face to face)
   • Teaching climbing classes for both adults and youth
   • Facility housekeeping
   • Event staff (belaying, leading games/activities, and monitoring/supervision event).  

Job requirements

1. Minimum 16 years old. There are very limited opportunities for applicants that are 15 years old and only generally offered only to applicants with extensive ÜG Climbing background (e.g. 2+ years participation in ÜG clubs and or teams) that have demonstrated maturity, responsibility, and a strong work ethic.
2. Previous climbing experience (1+ years preferred) and ability to pass a top rope belay certification.
3. Ability to climb at a 5.9 or higher level.
4. Ability to stand for duration of shifts (8 hours).
5. Ability to wear a climbing harness and perform top rope belay for others for 2 hours without a break.
6. Applicants must work weekday (8am to 5pm) during the summer and must be available to work a MINIMUM of 4 full weeks through the summer (counselors are scheduled for a full 40 hours work week on weeks that they are scheduled for)
7. Applicants must be available for our CampGrippen training days on May 17, 2024 and May 18, 2024. Applicants need to plan to be available for both of these days.
8. Ability to walk up and down stairs and over soft/uneven surfaces (e.g. soft padded bouldering flooring) while providing assistance to others.
   
9. Ability clearly clearly communicate with campers and their parents in person and over the phone.
10. Ability to lead groups (6 or more people) including providing clear verbal instructions, group management, a conflict resolution.
    
11. Ability to lift and move boxes up to 30 lbs without assistance from others.
12. CPR/First Aid Certification (American Red Cross certifications are offered semi-annually)
    
13. Climbing Wall Association (CWA) Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI) Certification (certification courses are offered semi-annually)
14. Must pass a criminal background check. (applicable to employees 18+)
15. Priority will be given to applicants who are available to work during the school year as well

The Team Member & Youth Climbing Coach position is for people that are excited about rock climbing and have a strong desire to learn more and share their stoke with our community! Our team member's role is to maximize the guest experience, introduce new people to the sport of climbing, maintain and enhance our crag! Our Youth Climbing coaches bring their excitement for climbing to the younger generation of developing climbers. Youth Coaches will instruct on a range of skills from first time classes (Akademie), to recreational clubs, and competitive teams.  Typically a Youth Program coach will also have shifts for general facility operations and supervision, and events.

Job requirements

1. Previous climbing experience (1+ years preferred) and ability to pass a top rope belay certification.
2. Ability to climb at a 5.9 or higher level.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of climbing movement and ability to lead classes teaching those skills
4. Ability to stand for duration of shifts (4 hours minimum).
5. Ability to wear a climbing harness and perform top rope belay for others for 2 hours without a break.
6. Applicants must have weekday evening (4pm to 10:30pm) and weekend availability (8am to 8pm); Part Time Team Member roles have very minimal daytime shifts Monday - Friday.
   
7. Ability to walk up and down stairs and over soft/uneven surfaces (e.g. soft padded bouldering flooring) while providing assistance to others.
8. Ability to clearly communicate with customers in person, on the phone, and via electronic messaging (e.g. e-mail).
9. Ability to lead groups (6 or more people) including providing clear verbal instructions, group management, a conflict resolution.
   
10. Ability to lift and move boxes up to 30 lbs without assistance from others.
11. Ability to work at a computer using standard computer interfaces (keyboard, mouse).
12. CPR/First Aid Certification (American Red Cross certifications are offered semi-annually)
13. Climbing Wall Association (CWA) Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI) Certification (certification courses are offered semi-annually)

Compensation

• Starting compensation $14.42/hr (to $15.50) with pay increases for staff with HS diploma (or equivalent) after completing CWI and CPR certifications and basic job training, completing ÜG Youth Climbing Instructor training and working regular youth program coaching shifts (2 classes per week) for 6 months, and/or becoming an advanced climbing instructor (teaching lead climbing and movement classes to ÜG's defined course curriculum).

Coaching Hours:

Applicants must be able to work weekday evenings - primarily Monday & Wednesday evenings.

• Jr. Sasquatch Team (8-11): 4:15p - 6:45p
• Sasquatch Team (11-18): 7:15p - 9:45p

Applicants may be asked to work a few weekends for competitions, which may include travel, but this is something that we’ll discuss and work with you on based on your interest and availability.

Requirements

• Apply enjoyable climbing instruction to our curriculum and class goals.
• Implement our training curriculum to ensure high engagement and learning effectiveness.
• Supervise youth climbers during all climbing, bouldering, and belaying activities.
  
• Manage administrative tasks including roster management, training tracking, organizing practice notes, and parent communication.
• Collaborate with our coaching staff and management to address issues and concerns promptly.
• Facilitate mentorship opportunities and personal development for team members.

Preferences

• CWA Climbing Wall Instructor Level 3 Certification -or- ability to become certified at a CWI Course offered by ÜG prior to the start of coaching responsibilities.
• SafeSport Certification -or- ability to complete SafeSport Training prior to the start of coaching responsibilities.
• First Aid / CPR / AED Certification or ability to complete the First Aid / CPR / AED Training prior to the start of coaching responsibilities.
  
• Climbs a minimum of V5 and 5.12a
• Up to date with the USAC, ASCL & ÜG Youth League Competition formats; enough to effectively assist team members with preparation, strategies during, and review/analysis.  Can be learned after hire.
